Simply Thankful Saturday – Veteran’s Day Edition

Standard

Monday is Veteran’s Day. My father served in the Navy and in the Navy Reserves. During World War II my grandfather served in the Navy and after his time in the Navy he joined the Army. They served our country well and raised me to respect this country and the service of every man and woman in the military.

Thank you to Max E. Campbell, Jr. and Max E. Campbell, Sr. for all you did and for giving me the love of this country I have. And thank you to every man, woman and family that sacrifices every day for everything I have. Sincerely, thank you.

I Love Fall

Standard

The smell of fall leaves, mums on porches, pumpkins everywhere. Yep, I love fall. The leaves in Indiana have turned a little late but we have the prettiest yellows, reds, and oranges right now.

I’m sure when it starts threatening snow soon I will have longings for summer but until then I will enjoy scenes like these.

Daylight Savings Is Terrible

Standard

I wanted to write something having to do with Throwback Thursday or with being thrifty but I just couldn’t do it. I am TIRED. Daylight Savings time throws me off and I don’t like it. By 8:00 I’m already feeling like it’s bedtime and right now it feels like I’m up super late. In a day or two hopefully I will be adjusted and be able to concentrate again at night. We shall see…

A Little Thing Called Ethics

Standard

During my lunch hour Gabe told me a story that made my eyes bug out of my head. The story is far too long for me to get in to it when the details are so well laid out by The Chicks On The Right.

Apparently a New Mexico man was pulled over, wrongly suspected of carrying drugs on/in his body and the story spiraled from there. The first hospital the police officer took the man to refused to participate in searching the man, as there was no evidence of him having drugs and it was unethical.

Unfortunately the second medical center didn’t have such scruples. The man was x-rayed, anally searched, forced to receive multiple enemas, anesthetized, and assaulted through the use of colonoscopy. This was all in a different county than a warrant was issued in and the colonoscopy was done 3 hours after the warrant expired.

Oh and now the man is being charged for all of the procedures forced upon him.

My immediate reaction was “I hope everyone involved loses their licenses”. This man did not give consent to any searches or medical procedures.

As a nurse I have a code of ethics I practice under and those ethics play a huge part in the care I give patients. I can’t imagine ever being in a situation in which I feel like participating in something like this is ok. If I ever reach that point, I hope my license is revoked.

Medical Mondays – Uniforms Edition

Standard

Being a nurse means being limited in what I can wear to work (or at least in my case it does).  I work for an office that requires scrubs in only a few select colors.  I have 3 pairs that I try to mix and match to have different looks but sometimes it gets a little boring.  One nice thing about my uniform is the ability to wear any shoes I want or any hair accessories to jazz up my day.  I love bright headbands but otherwise trying to figure out what to wear is pretty simple.  My newest uniform is black with a little bit of pink accent but the important part of this one was fit.

Scrub TopThe mock wrap gives it a fitted feel instead of a big, bulky scrub top, which is no fun to wear at all.  I was able to buy the matching pants and my amazing mother-in-law transformed them in to a skirt.  Scrub skirts online are TERRIBLE.  They are odd lengths and ill-fitting.  It’s so much easier to find a pair of pants I like and then she works her magic so I have a skirt just the right fit and length for me.  Definitely no complaints there.

I love shoes.  I always have and I always will.  When I’m on my feet for a lot of the day though comfort tends to be much more important than it had been previously.  I have been lucky enough to have been given an amazingly cute pair of Dansko’s from a friend and co-worker (in exchange she got a WONDERFUL bag of Starbucks coffee – he he).

Dansko

I also purchased a pair of Dansko’s so that I could rotate them and not wear them out as quickly as with just having the one pair.  That same friend and co-worker found these and I just had to have them for myself.

ShoesThese are both cute but also SO very comfortable to wear.  At the end of a 8-10 hour day my feet aren’t killing me and I’m not ready to rip them off from discomfort.  I think that says a LOT.

So as a nurse, while I may have limits in the uniform department, it is still fun to find ways to show my style and have fun with it.
